Children and strabismus: what to do?

Strabismus is a condition relatively common among very young children, so to speak, below the first year of life. The baby, in fact, up to 7-8 months has not yet acquired the perfect control of eye muscles and thus, problems may arise in binocular vision (the one in which both eyes are focused on a single object).

So if mom and dad were to see their baby making "cross-eyed," do not have to worry about. However, sometimes the squint does not go alone with the growth of small, but remains beyond the first year. What to do? Sure, you may need an eye examination to determine if the visual disturbance of the child is of physical origin (ie congenital), or, conversely, acquired.

The latter case is determined by a sort of "vice" refractive - that is a flaw in the focus of the object that the child is watching - that forced him, somehow, to "rearrange" the vision he can. This deficit is evident, usually after 2 years and can be overcome with targeted treatments eye as the use of corrective lenses.

Not infrequently, this form of strabismus acquired, is associated with another deficit, commonly called "lazy eye" or amblyopia, in which the eye is not aligned also shown a reduction of the sight. There are many ways to treat amblyopia, a classical system is the eye patch "healthy" in order to stimulate the deficit.

But recently it was discovered that acupuncture SSW is doubtful good results. With regard to congenital strabismus, can be resolved without consequences and problems with surgery, but you have to wait until the child grows a little, it usually runs at school age. However, if your child is cross-eyed, no anguish, in all probability, and of whatever nature is his squint, if you do not bring back as an adult.
