Michelle Obama is a first lady really enthusiastic and tireless promoter of initiatives aimed at improving the health and welfare of the American population. Particular attention, Mr. ra Obama has always reserved to the problems of children, because they will be attentive, caring mother of two beautiful girls, Malia and Sasha, or perhaps because it is well aware of how important it is to intervene at an early age to teach respect for the body and promote healthy lifestyles.

In this regard, a struggle that Michelle has decided to fight since the early days of the settlement at the White House, was the one against childhood obesity. A common phenomenon in all industrialized countries, but in the U.S. reached alarming proportions indeed. Indeed, we know that overweight and obesity are among the factors that affect its deteriorating general health of the adult, encouraging the emergence of serious diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and cancer.

Thus, any initiative to stem the trend of young people to eat American junk-food (junk food) and taking care to avoid physical activity, can always count on the support of the dynamic first lady. Among these campaigns, is also part of that time to promote breastfeeding, a practice that, in the U.S., is run into a general attitude of criticism and opposition, both in and outside health facilities, as well as in public places employment of new mothers.

Michelle Obama addressed the issue during a luncheon held last week in the presence of ten journalists, the first anniversary of the campaign Let's move against childhood obesity. "We want to focus our attention to some key moments in the life of the child, because we have learned how important it is to intervene at once - said Michelle - Children who are breastfed for longer are less susceptible to obesity.

And because it is important to prevent obesity now, we are working to promote breastfeeding, especially in African-American community, where 40% of our children are not breastfed, even in the first weeks of life. " According to this first step to understanding the First Lady and her staff, will be to create and promote a campaign to invite their mothers, but even before birth centers and healthcare facilities to promote breastfeeding of infants.

Well done Michelle!
