From nature comes to us the most powerful antibiotic in the world is the honey of Australian myrtle, and so far was only known for its delicacy. Now, however, the students of Brisbane, commissioned by Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) led a study which showed that even a small amount of honey can prevent this infection.
And we thought that the best properties of honey as a remedy was alcohol! The species belongs to the Australian myrtle Leptospermum polygalifolium that in Italy there is a particularly common variant in Sardinia, where they draw a bitter and highly prized honey. The Australian myrtle is a shrub very sensitive on the particular flavor of lemon and, apparently, has properties quite extraordinary, so much so that scholars speak of the most potent antibacterial currently in circulation.
A medicines would be worth nothing, they say, compared to one teaspoon of honey myrtle from Australia who would be able to counter some bacteria known to be resistant to common antibiotics. Some time ago we applauded the discovery that the sap of Euphorbia fights skin cancer, now this delicate honey can bring more benefits than any antibiotic so far out there.
Moreover, we are happy to take a teaspoon of honey rather than any medicine, is not it? Analyses of this type of honey has led to the startling discovery. And to think that the Australian myrtle is a plant very common along the coasts of Australia, both south and north to the reef. Nobody ever would have imagined that his honey can defeat the most resistant bacteria common in hospitals and because it contains high concentrations of MgO, methyl glyoxal, the active compound in large quantities.
No Natural medicine, however, already used in the medicinal properties of manuka honey, honey-like Australian bush, which contains the same active ingredient but in lower concentration. We know that the cold treatment of children with zinc, but now we can treat more serious infections and resistant with something sweet and delicious as honey.
