For other Italian regions, the landings in Lampedusa are a distant reality that the news refer to rotation. For residents of other regions of Italy may well be that way, but for the people of Lampedusa, the measure is now filled, in addition to being filled with the city itself. And so began to protest, especially women who are chained to the pier to prevent new berths for boats (who have worked around each block and surveillance).
Meanwhile, the 2 thousand arrivals in the last 24 hours, only 180 migrants have been transferred. How much more the city can bear? As yet its inhabitants? The desperation of those who have undertaken this difficult journey for a better life collides with the desperation of one who sees invaded in every way. The bins overturned in the streets are small compared with the blockade at the port entrance, the announcement of a general strike and popular meeting with the mayor stopped abruptly because of some chairs that are flown in protest. And if the rest of Italy is still being discussed, it pontificates, plans, Lampedusa can not wait that decisions are taken elsewhere in places where the relaxed atmosphere does not make the idea of the nightmare of the small island of Sicily.
In the news nerve center of the riots in Sicily was granted, after all, quite relaxed, almost as if, by chance, if they expected. The Government has, in fact, did you know that tomorrow's five ferries, plus the ship San Marco, will lead off the island until the last of Tunisia, on balance about 6 000 desperate souls.
If souls continue to sparkle in Lampedusa is why no one has believed in this easy and painless resolution.
